A bit on the side...

The French began calling finger foods canapés, originally a term for the sofa, in the late 18th century.

As with Italian crostini, canapés earned their name by their physical nature; toppings sat on top of bread, like people sat on sofas.

We think if you are going to have ‘a bit on the side’, it must be romantic, emotionally intense and encouraged with wine…or a beer!
